April Showers Bring May Flowers!

We have seen quite a bit of spring snow here in Colorado over the last month…but that is ok with us! Castle Country Assisted Living folks have been enjoying cozy days by the fire at our Victorian House, games and puzzles with hot coffee at our Valley House and even a High Tea at our Cantril House.

We have welcomed some new staff members and are so happy to have people who care about our residents join our family. We encourage you to come and meet our staff, see our homes and get to know us!

April is an exciting month as it signals new growth in the world around us, fresh clean air and even has some fun holiday’s! It starts with everyone’s favorite prank day – April Fool’s and continues with Arbor Day – let’s plant a tree everyone! Then we come to Earth Day, which is a wonderful conservation movement that first started in the 1960’s.  There is also April 15th – Tax Day!There are some fun events and trips this month, please be sure to check out our website for a full calendar!

April Spotlight: Assisted Living

Assisted living as it exists today emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative people who independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Assisted living is a philosophy of care with services promoting independence and dignity.

Aging in place is a term you may hear us say often. This is defined as “the ability to live in one’s own home or community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level”.
Our goal here at Castle Country is to have our residents age in place, with us. Most adults would prefer to age in place—that is, remain in their home of choice for as long as possible. In fact, 90 percent of adults over the age of 65 report that they would prefer to stay in their current residence as they age. However, some people are unable to care for themselves in all aspects and therefore unable to live fully independent. That is where assisted living comes in.Assisted Living facilities are regulated and licensed at the US State level. We follow many guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all our residents and staff members. The industry standards are changing and we are moving right along with them! We have worked very hard over this past year to update our process, care procedures and documentation to exceed the state standard. We have been diligently working with our staff to keep them as up to date as possible! We hold many in-service trainings with them and we will also host our resident’s families and members of our community this month for a meeting regarding assisted living in general. (4/19 @ Cantril House, 2 p.m.; 4/20 @ Valley House, 1:00 p.m. and 4/21 @ Victorian House, 10:00 a.m.. Please let us know if you would like to come and learn anything you ever wanted to know about Assisted Living!)
