Honoring Veterans DayVeterans Day is coming up. Each year, our nation observes this important day on November 11 to honor all the men and women who served and continue to serve our country. Currently, more than 21 million veterans live in the United States. In Colorado alone, we have 413,271 veterans, according the Department of Veterans Affairs. Several of them even reside right here at Castle Country Assisted Living.

Veterans have done so much for our country to protect our safety and freedom. This Veterans Day, let’s all do our part to show them the respect and appreciation they deserve. You might simply stop and thank someone you see in uniform. Or you could give a random act of kindness – pay for a veteran’s coffee, breakfast or lunch if you see them at a coffee shop or restaurant.

If you have veterans in your family, celebrate the day with them. You might take them out for a meal or prepare one at home. You could attend the Douglas County Monument Foundation’s Veterans Day Tribute at the Veterans Monument Plaza in Castle Rock; or attend the Parker Area Historical Society’s commemorative program at Ruth Memorial Chapel. You might simply spend time talking to your loved one about their experience in the service. Take some time to listen to the powerful stories they undoubtedly have to share.

At Castle Country Assisted Living, we’re honoring Veterans Day with a special seminar for local veterans in need of financial assistance. Jim Strouse, CLU, FLMI, of the American Association of Wartime Veterans, will discuss the Aid & Attendance program and answer any questions you may have. Through this special program, wartime veterans may qualify for up to $1,758 monthly, while surviving spouses may qualify for $1,130. We welcome you to join us to learn more about this benefit and see if you qualify.

The Aid & Attendance seminar will be held at Victorian House, 19600 Victorian Dr. in Parker, on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. It will also be held at Valley House, 255 S. Valley Dr., on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Please call to learn more or to RSVP: 303-482-5552.

If you’re a veteran, please know how much we appreciate all that you’ve done and sacrificed for our country. If you’re not a veteran, we hope you’ll join us in saluting our national heroes this Veterans Day.
