Summer Games!

The Summer Olympics are in Rio this year and we here at Castle Country are excited to watch the games and keep track of the USA medal counts!  Our residents have been getting outside and enjoying the warm weather, spending time with visiting family members and focusing on their overall wellbeing.
Our staff has excelled at providing various ideas for getting everyone moving, whether it’s dancing to music in our dining rooms, going for walks around the neighborhoods or joining our exercise classes (held every morning at 10:30 rain or shine). Given that the Olympic Games are all about fitness and health, we are proud to help each one of our residents feel their very best, every day.We would love to hear from you, if you have a moment, please click the link and leave us a review!

August Spotlight: The Importance of Overall Health

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health (and mental health) this way: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Mental health is an integral part of this definition.”

For many people in the elderly population, staying active and maintaining overall health can be difficult; whether due to age, illness or other circumstances. Here at Castle Country, we encourage each resident to stay active, not just with our daily exercise program but mentally and emotionally as well.  Because physical activity is very important but it is just as important to keep your brain active! Part of our mission is to provide a home-like environment for our residents that includes many different options for overall health and wellness.

For example, we vary the types of exercise that we do. We have our MoveMor boards that works on flexibility and stability to prevent falls, we have Sit and Be Fit days, we have Chair Yoga and we also go for walks. It is extremely important to us that the people we care for in our homes feel as though they are healthy and an active participant in their own lives.

In order to incite that mentality, our nurses check in on our residents’ physical health, educating them about their medications and promote healthy eating; Our managers are always asking for feedback on the menu plan, the activities offered and the care staff. Our family members are encouraged to come and spend time with their loved one and join us for trips or events.

We offer a large variety of social activities as well, such as flower arranging, painting classes, group reading sessions, special luncheons wherein we gather all our residents and encourage them to get to know each other and go on group excursions. We bring in many different entertainers, in an attempt to delight and excite everyone. Our staff has one on one time with each resident, learning what they can about the individual person and trading stories. We play word games and trivia at lunchtime, we offer random facts and historical stories to keep conversation alive.

All of this is done in order to instill the importance of health and wellness in our communities. We hope that you will come and visit one of our homes and see for yourself!
